Moving checklist:

  • Get rid of everything you don’t want moved. Consider booking a junk removal service to make it fast and easy.
  • Book elevators and make arrangements to save a parking spot for the truck in front of both locations for up to four hours, if applicable.
  • Find out if your condo, retirement community, apartment, HOA, or dorm have any requirements for the time or day you’re allowed to move. For example, if you’re a senior moving into a new community, there may be guidelines.
  • Get packing supplies, including boxes, tape, paper, and bubble wrap.
  • Protect your valuables. Consider having high-value items verified for their value in advance of a move.
  • Label every box as you pack, including what’s inside and which room they go in.
  • Check your furniture and note any scratches or dents.
  • Book your moving company!
  • Pack all pictures and wall decor.
  • Pack all loose items and electronics.
  • Remove fragile items from dressers and desks.
  • Clean out and pack the bathrooms. You’ll need these items right away at your new place.
  • Pack a bag with a change of clothes and toiletries to keep with you for the first night.
  • Remove blankets and linens from beds and pack them up.
  • Ensure all items are removed from appliances, such as your dishwasher.
  • After the truck is loaded up, do a final walkthrough to check all rooms, closets, and cabinets for any missed items.

Packing checklist:

Packing seems complicated, but you can keep it simple with a little planning:

  • Set a goal; one room per day per person should give you enough time. Budget more for rooms with fragile items, such as your kitchen.
  • The heavier the item, the smaller the box.
  • Pack items from one room in their own boxes. Do not mix rooms. It makes organizing the new place much easier.
  • If you can’t fill a box, stuff the remaining space with paper. This helps ensure it is stackable on the moving truck.
  • Don’t wait until moving day to begin packing. You’re more likely to lose track of possessions or run out of time.

Although we’re always ready to get to work, no matter the challenge, we can make your move faster and more efficient with some preparation.

  • Ensure you’re well-packed and you’ve clearly labeled every box.
  • Remove everything that is not coming.
  • Movers load boxes first, so stage them in the most accessible room toward the front of your home.
  • Take the beds apart before the move. Our team is happy to help with disassembly, if you need us. Custom beds and cribs must be disassembled before we arrive.
  • During load up, close doors on rooms that are complete. Movers will know to focus on other areas.
  • During the unloading process, direct traffic at the front of the house, informing the movers where each piece or box goes.
  • Secure designated parking as close to the house or apartment as possible.
  • Empty and disassemble items to easily navigate narrow halls, stairs, and doorways.
  • Empty any dressers that have more than three rows of drawers. Leave the empty drawers inside the dresser.

After you’ve completed all the steps on our packing and moving checklist, you should be all set for the perfect move!
