You Move Me Offers a Helping Hand
At You Move Me, we’re passionate about helping people in our communities. So when You Move Me Vancouver Island was contacted by the Quadra Village Community Centre for help following an unfortunate residential fire at a townhouse complex in Victoria, we were quick to lend a helping hand.
The fire damaged multiple units in the complex and left several people without a safe place to stay ahead of the holidays. Flames broke out in the middle of the night on November 18, 2016, and proved to be difficult to extinguish for firefighters. Many residents were sleeping at the time and awoke to smoke creeping into their homes.
Local residents and community organizations came together and collected essential items for victims of the fire. Donations included clothing, kitchen supplies, and furniture. There were enough donations to fill a 1-ton truck. The packing and moving all took place on the morning of Friday, December 9, 2016, just after Vancouver Island’s first snowfall of the season. The crew of 5 lead by General Manager Patrick Ellison helped organize, pack, and safely transport the items to a nearby storage facility donated by Storage For Your Life.
Neighbours alongside the Quadra Village Community Centre and the Mustard Seed Food Bank continue to collect donations for those in need during this difficult time. “The generosity shown by the community was heartwarming to watch,” says Ellison. “We’re glad we could help.”
