How to Remember Your Old House
Sometimes when we move house, we’re a little sad to see the old one go. Sometimes there are kids in the household who are moving for the first time and aren’t dealing well with being ‘uprooted’. While these emotions are completely acceptable and very common, we all need to be able to move on. Here are three ways to fondly remember your old house:
Take Pictures
Take pictures of your favorite rooms with the furniture still in them. Get a shot of you standing in front of the fireplace you love. Take a picture of the stained glass window by the kitchen sink. It may not be the structure or layout of the house you’ll miss, but maybe it’s the unique features that you won’t have in the new place.
Write About It
Whether you’re a seasoned writer, a casual storyteller or someone who has never written anything in their life, putting your memories down on paper may be a nice way to remember how you feel about the house. Need some ideas to get started? Try these:
What do you love most about the house?
What is one of your favorite memories in the house?
What will you not miss about the house?
3D Print It!
We’ve casually suggested before that if you really couldn’t leave your old home behind, you could consider 3D printing a mini-version of it. There are companies that could potentially take pictures of the outside of your house and create a 3D model to print a scaled-down version as a keepsake. It’s not the easiest process, but take a look at the article here and consider researching companies who could work with you to turn photographs into a 3D model!
Let It Go
Remember—while a home is full of memories and emotions, it is still a roof over your head. You will learn to love different aspects of your new home and you’ll create new memories. While moving may get you down, it’s also a chance to start fresh and create something beautiful—just like what you did in your old house!
