Relocate and Find Love!
Are you single and considering a move in 2017? In the spirit of love and Valentine’s Day, Trulia (with some help from the US Census), crunched the numbers on the best locales in the US for single men and women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s.
To determine these statistics, Trulia economists looked at a few different data points on singles in distinctive areas such as the ratio of single men to single women, age, education and previous marriages. Given those parameters, the report reveals all kinds of “love demographics.” And if you’re still unsure where to find love, interactive quizzes are included in Trulia’s report that can help you determine where to find Mr. Marriage Material or Ms. Independent. Check out the data and take the quiz yourself in Trulia’s recent research article “Where to Live and Let Love Find You.”
Looking for a young romance?
If you are in your early to mid 20s, and looking for a young, single significant other, Madison, WI, San Diego, CA, El Paso, TX, and Boston, MA, are only some of the best cities for 20-somethings to consider, as they are currently home to some of the highest shares of single adults in that age range. Madison, WI ranks the highest with 40.7% single adult males and 31.8% single adult females, where Boston falls lower on the list with 36.8% single adult males and 29.1% single adult females.
However, Boston makes up for a lower percentage of young singles with a high percentage of educated singles – 34.6% of single adult males and 36.7% of females in Boston have at least a college diploma.
Many of these metros with a high volume of young folk also boast an abundance of nightlife, dining options and close proximity to outdoor activities – all factors that have historically been important to young millennials.
Feeling thirty and flirty?
For the slightly older generation, or those seeking love in their 30s, the best places to look are San Francisco, CA, Austin, TX, Salt Lake City, UT, Las Vegas, NV and Los Angeles, CA. San Francisco also ranks first on the list of cities with a high level of single adults who have at least a college or graduate degree. In fact, 47.2% of single adult males in the San Francisco Bay Area have at least a college diploma, and females are doing just as well with 46.4% reporting at least a college degree. These places are also home to quiet suburban neighborhoods for those who are starting to get less excited about partying the night away and more serious about their careers.
Popular Places for Gen X Love-Seekers
Members of Generation X looking for that special someone to settle down with and start a family are likely to have the best luck in Winston-Salem, NC, Indianapolis, IN, Detroit, MI, Atlanta, GA, and Greensboro, NC or a little further down the list, New York, NY. These metropolitan areas have some of the highest concentrations of singles in their 40s. The popularity of these cities amongst the older generation of singles is likely due to the highly suburban nature, offering easy commutes to urban centers, good schools, and safe neighborhoods.
The chances are you can find love in any city if you look hard enough, but the statistics are on your side if you are looking for a new lease on love in the suggested city centers.
