5 Tips for Moving During Winter
Moving during the winter months can be difficult, especially during the holidays–but it can be made even worse in bad weather. Winter weather can be unpredictable and the last thing you want to do is move in a snowstorm.
Sometimes moving during the winter just can’t be avoided, so if you find yourself in a snowy situation, here are a few tips to help you get by.
Hire movers
If there was ever a time to hire professional movers, this would be it. Have the experts pack and load your belongings and transport everything to your new home. Driving in the winter is dangerous enough as it is, so just imagine driving an unfamiliar moving truck in snow and ice! Best to leave it to the professionals.
Shovel and salt the driveway
If you happen to be moving in the snow, make sure to shovel pathways and your driveway if necessary to make your movers’ lives easier. Don’t forget to use an icemelter or salt–you wouldn’t want anyone to slip while carrying that box full of your dinnerware!
Make sure your utilities are set up in the new house
Make sure the utilities in your new house are all set up. Last thing you want to do is move into a new house to find that you’re without electricity, heat and/or hot water.
Protect the floors
Walking outdoors in the winter and then coming inside the house can make a mess of your floors, especially carpet. The best thing to do is tape down a few pieces of heavy cardboard or plastic sheeting in high traffic areas.
Don’t forget the hot chocolate!
My last tip? Keep hot chocolate on hand! There’s nothing better than a warm beverage during the winter and hot chocolate does the trick every time. Already packed? Not to worry! Hire You Move Me and we’ll call ahead to take your order for hot chocolate, coffee, tea…just make a request!
